Sandwiched among all this is the “monster vs. There’s a bit of workplace comedy, some cops and robbers intrigue, and military action sequences thrown in at the end. There isn’t a plot so much as a loose collection of scene ideas poorly stitched together. The rushed nature of Godzilla Raids Again shows in almost every element. But even though the Stay-Puft Man and Mechagodzilla are both, in their ways, imitations of the same radioactive dinosaur, Mechagodzilla fans don’t seem to have any special affection for Ghostbusters’ secondary antagonist. What’s Japanese for “quickie sequel?” The box office success of the original Godzilla (1954) was so impressive to executive producer Iwao Mori that, mere weeks after the first film’s release, a sequel was put into production and released not even a full calendar year later. This list also features the better remembered “Stay-Puft Marshmallow Man,” the towering corporate mascot that satirizes the Godzilla movies. Those who love Mechagodzilla also hold Ghostbusters in high esteem, as they’re 2X more likely to vote up Zuul, the iconic horror-comedy’s demonic antagonist, on the same Most Awesome Monsters & Creatures list. Those who love this colossal mecha are partial to the Cloverfield movies, as they’re 3X more likely to vote up the monster “Clover” on our list of The Most Awesome Monsters & Creatures Of All Time (128K votes). Mechagodzilla is #9 on The Most Powerful Robots In Movie History (4K votes), ahead of RoboCop but behind all three antagonists from the Terminator franchise. This mechanical foe specifically created by an alien race to destroy Godzilla also features not just on Ranker’s most competitive lists of on-screen monsters, but also on several lists of fictional robots. While they’re 6X more likely to count themselves fans of these more contemporary movie monsters, those who love King Ghidora are 2X more likely than the average Ranker voter to love Gill-Man, better known as the Creature from the Black Lagoon.Ĭonsidered one of Godzilla’s primary arch nemeses along with King Ghidora, Mechagodzilla first appeared in 1974’s Godzilla vs. They’re more likely than fans of any other monster in this Top 5 to love the Kaiju, the interdimensional antagonists of Pacific Rim. What other monsters do King Ghidora fans love? While some segments of the MonsterVerse fan base prefer to stick to the monsters from Godzilla’s universe, King Ghidora fans enjoy a wide range of different monster movies, including both descendants and contemporaries of the original 1954 Godzilla film. In addition to topping this list, King Ghidora is also #3 on the more general list of The Most Powerful Movie Monsters Of All Time (31K votes), with only Cthulhu and Godzilla ahead of it. King Ghidora is one of the most recognizable enemies of Godzilla - the three-headed dragon-like monster has appeared in nine movies, including the MonsterVerse entry Godzilla: King of the Monsters. But more importantly, we’ll also be using Insights to learn about the distinct pop culture proclivities of those who voted up each monster. We’re celebrating the arrival of Monarch: Legacy of Monsters by looking at our list of The Best Monsters From The Godzilla Movies (8K votes) to find out which titans this fan base loves most. We can also use it to zoom into the tastes and preferences of each movie’s, and even each monster’s fanbases. And of all four MonsterVerse films released so far, the one they’re most likely to love is 2019’s Godzilla: King of the Monsters.īut Insights can do more than just tell us about fans of this franchise in genral. They’re also partial to other modern reboots of cinematic classics, like Zack Snyder’s Day of the Dead, Dawn of the Planet of the Apes, and the Jurassic World trilogy. For example, Insights tells us that those who love the MonsterVerse are 2X more likely to also love monster movies outside their favorite franchise, including Pacific Rim, Reign of Fire, Cloverfield, and the Transformers franchise. Luckily, this is exactly the sort of problem that Ranker Insights was created to solve. But acquiring a massive IP also comes with challenges: how do you effectively market to a huge and established audience when you don’t yet have any data that tells you who this audience is? The new series also likely has execs at Apple excited over the prospect of millions of Godzilla fans subscribing to their platform to catch this franchise’s very first live-action TV show. The coming Monarch: Legacy of Monsters from Apple TV+ has prompted plenty of excitement from fans of the MonsterVerse.

If you want more info on how to set up your grill for indirect heat for grilling, check out my youtube channel playlist “Grill School” that gives a ton of information on how to learn the basics of grilling, including how to set up direct versus indirect zones on your grill, which is the basis for smoking. Plus, when you are smoking, you want the wings bare so the smoke flavor adheres to the actual meat. Therefore, it is best to add at the end of any cook. Why? BBQ sauce has a lot of sugar and burns on the grill. Place wings on the grill and smoke for 45 minutes, flipping about halfway through. However, as with any bbq sauce, this needs to be done at the end. Seasons wings on all sides until well coated. Next, adding the sauce adds a ton of flavor. It’s peppery, thick but not overly so and rich without being overly sweet. On the other hand, its sauce defies the definition of “regional sauce.” It’s not Kansas City, Carolina or even Memphis style. The brand’s rub is mild with a slight kick - not overwhelmingly spicy or salty. Pat dry the chicken wings with paper towels. The rub and sauce stand on their own, but together, they complement each other and create a unique, zesty flavor combination. Preheat your smoker to 250F and toss a few wood chunks onto hot coals. So, I used Drapers BBQ sauce for this recipe but you can use whatever rub you have on hand for this recipe.ĭraper’s Rub and Sauce can be used together or separately. I’ve been hearing about Draper’s BBQ rub and sauce for a while through some of my BBQ blogger friends and this was the perfect chance to give their sauce a test drive. It only takes about 45 minutes of time on the grill to achieve serious smokiness, and you’ll be smacking your lips in satisfaction. So much so that I decided to add a touch of smokiness to my chicken wings last weekend. Thank you to Sophy and Grant Elliott, Carol and David Nelson, Dr. Looking back on this virtual year and ahead to returning in person, we asked a few community members what they have learned, and why courageous conversations matter to them. In our second season, we transitioned from calling this a “series” to a Courageous Community - by which we mean a community unafraid to explore the sometimes uncomfortable but necessary conversations we must have as neighbors and strangers to build a more inclusive future where everyone belongs. We have been encouraged by personal acts of courage - sometimes standing up to speak, other times sitting down to listen. We’ve heard people say the series helped them see who is missing from their own civic organizations and social networks, and seek ways to extend invitations and expand representation at tables where they sit. Some have started their own efforts or joined in solidarity with others, from book and film clubs to racial healing circles to community advocacy initiatives. Though we hold a long view of time for social healing and transformation, we’ve seen seeds begin to bear fruit. We smile recalling early planning meetings when we hoped maybe 50 people would come? As William Carlos Williams wrote in his poem, The Red Wheelbarrow - “so much depends on it.” “We need to help those people who are in jeopardy - physically or psychologically,” said French. Our success depends upon voluntarily relinquishing and sharing power. In the same way we see little remnant of the former animosity between Catholics and Protestants, Patel believes we can become accepting of all peoples and religions.įrench believes we are built for this - not only to survive pluralism, but to thrive. In this world’s oldest democracy, we must reach beyond just what we like or believe to work toward the greater good.” We must all believe that an affront to one person’s liberty is an affront to us all. “People of goodwill must be ambassadors within each group. Patel described America’s democracy as less of a melting pot and more of a potluck dinner where each contributes their own offerings to share. Our founders were vehement about protecting religious freedom - one of the core reasons many fled to this continent. The United States will no longer be a majority white Judeo-Christian nation - which is not an opinion, but a fact “just as true as the sky is blue,” underscored French. Not only are racial demographics shifting, so are religious identities. Patel and French reminded guests that we are a changing America, and that building a racially, religiously and politically diverse democracy is not easy, but worthy. (French grew to respect and cherish his roommate Leo while they both served in Iraq, despite the fact they were politically opposed.) Recognize that we are already working with people with whom we disagree - think of doctors, fire fighters, pilots, front line workers showing that the goal of saving lives or working for the greater good can outweigh political beliefs in everyday life andįind your “Leo” - a person with whom you disagree on political issues, but someone with whom you can share mutual respect and friendship. Shop Bird and Wildlife Supplies at B&M Stores While Cabernet is successful throughout the world, rarely has it achieved such merit as it does from the Napa Valley. The state’s diverse terrain and microclimates, as well as the freedom of its winemakers, allow for an incredible range of wine styles from this single grape.Ĭalifornia’s most famous region-and especially for Cabernet Sauvignon-is the acclaimed Napa Valley. Caymus Special Selection Cabernet Sauvignon is the only wine in the world to be honored twice as Wine Spectator magazine’s "Wine of the Year" for the 19 vintages.Ĭovering the most vine acreage in the state compared to any other red wine variety, Cabernet Sauvignon produces as much wine in California as Merlot and Pinot Noir combined. Chuck Wagner continues to make two world-renowned Cabernet Sauvignons – Caymus Napa Valley and Caymus Special Selection. Made from grapes farmed in 8 of Napa Valley’s 16 appellations, the wine has a signature style that is dark in color, with rich fruit and ripe tannins – as approachable in youth as it is in maturity. Today, Caymus Cabernet is one of Napa Valley’s most celebrated wines. Working together for decades, Chuck Wagner and his parents established the family’s work ethic, appetite for innovation, down-to-earth sensibility, and deep appreciation of the pleasures of good food and wine enjoyed with family and friends. The Wagner family were farmers with deep roots in the Napa Valley – in 1857, Chuck Wagner’s great-great grandfather captained a wagon train to California from Bible Grove, Missouri. In 1972, Chuck Wagner started Caymus Vineyards with his parents, Charlie and Lorna, with a humble plan and an uncharted future. Who knew? It was a glorious day in late October, and seated in the beautiful outdoor garden/patio, we enjoyed a relaxed, laid-back tasting.Learn about Caymus: the history of the winery and its famed Cabernet Sauvignon. Red Schooner is made from grapes grown in the Andes Mountains and shipped chilled to the winery. Other Wagner family labels include Mer Soleil Chardonnay (one of my go-to fav Chards), Conundrum, Emmolo, and for Malbec fans, Red Schooner. We were surprised to learn that Caymus also produces a small amount of Zinfandel we tried the 2018 Napa Valley Zinfandel and fell in love with its full-bodied flavor. The Caymus label, established in 1972, is best known for its signature style Cabernet Sauvignon the 2019 we tasted was rich and complex. The Wagner family Napa history stretches back to the 1850s and is still going strong. We’ve long enjoyed the Caymus portfolio of wines, known for their quality and consistency, but this was our first visit to the Rutherford winery. For our group, we visited so many great places that made incredible wines, that Caymus did not seem to be in the same league. However, I know some people who like Caymus wines, so if you are one of those people, you should visit. I have been told by a friend that is a wine rep in our area that Caymus used to make high quality wines, but over the years has used their name to mass produce and their wines are very mediocre. If it was not for using our credits, we would not have purchased any wine. Compared to the many other wines we had that week, they did not stand out and were not worth buying. The one negative just has to be that, in our opinion, Caymus wines are not that good. We really like that your tasting fee, $50, is a credit to be used to purchase wine in the shop. She mentioned that they were constructing a new tasting room so we were in temporary room in the barrel storage area, which was cold. Our host was very friendly and knowledgeable. We had a group of six and were greeted at the door and treated with good hospitality. We managed to get an appointment at the last second on our three days of winery visits. I told Hazel: in the Downloads folder, if a file’s extension contains “dmg”, it’s less than 200 MB in size and I haven’t touched it in the last 4 hours, then move the file to the Trash. Very simple, but incredibly effective.Īn example is the first rule I created to get rid of apps’ dmg files after a certain amount of time. Rather, it’s an app that monitors folders and performs any action based on the criteria you assigned. Just like with OS X smart folders you can assign criteria and resulting actions (if this, then that), but unlike smart folders Hazel isn’t meant to visualize content or perform specific searches. The thing to understand about Hazel is that it’s like a smart folder…for folders. My Mac is now running a clean install and it’s controlled every single minute in the background by Hazel. There’s a free trial available (14 days) or you can buy the app for $21.95. So I decided to start over: I re-installed OS X (this was needed due to some kernel panics I experienced last week), quickly imported all the files and apps I needed (Dropbox and the Mac App Store are great for this) and installed Hazel. In fact, until a few days ago my MacBook wasn’t minimal or uncluttered at all. pdf files and I don’t remember to empty the Trash. png files my Downloads folder is imploding with. The desktop becomes cluttered with all those. The problem: I take a lot of screenshots every day, download lots of documents and install many different apps and, most of the times, I forget to clean everything up. Put simply, I want to achieve the utopian state of a self-cleaning, self-organizing Mac. Last week, when I was not a “Hazel user”, I couldn’t find a single post about getting started with Hazel, and why you should give it a try. Still, I think I should share my thoughts on why I started using it, especially considering how it’s difficult to find on blogs the reasons why you need Hazel, rather than a list of all the things this utility can do. This is not meant to be a review of Hazel, as I believe the app can go really in-depth with its feature set and I need a few more weeks before writing a proper article. The results, even in a short 3-day testing timeframe, are quite impressive. Following Ben Brooks’ excellent roundup of what can be accomplished with Noodlesoft’s Hazel and a series of great tips I’ve found on the Internet, I decided it was about time to take what many call “the most precious time-saving utility for the Mac” for a spin. Over the weekend, I have started using an application several MacStories readers and friends of mine suggested for a very long time: Hazel. The new keyboard shortcuts are quite handy, even if some of them are placed on the right-side of the keyboard. Wonderful news: They have continued improving this app. I understand that if the shape is no longer a vector object that this makes it impossible, but a nerd can dream. The only improvement I could ask for is allowing the editing of a shape that has already been finalized. Shape input is *so* natural, versatile, and consistent. (Once you've stopped editing vertices though, the shape is locked in) No other app gets this right. Release pen to enter vertex edit mode, where the shape can be fine tuned. While still holding, adjust size and rotation. Draw approximate shape, and hold at closing vertex 2. I don't think the AppStore listing sells this feature hard enough, so here's my experience. The biggest reason for me has got to be the shape input. At this point, I have tried every note taking app and this one is the best deal. All of the features that I need, with no unnecessary ones, and an extensive free mode to let me fall in love with it naturally. I'd really like to thank the developer(s). Minimal, Efficient, Refined & Nearing Perfection Oh and actually I would like to adjust the shape outline and fill color/transparency separately. They need to add that though, it’s a huge and as far as I can see the only glaring thing missing. I would almost take a star off for not being able to create links but, meh. Incredibly, Noteful checks all the boxes and adds stuff I wouldn’t have thought of!! I actually love it beyond any of the others I used and that’s saying a lot because I love my journaling enough to pretend I love my notes app no matter how annoying it is but in retrospect overlooking minor inconveniences is not the same as loving an app and guess what? I deserve to love my notes app in addition to, not in spite of, my journals. I was curious enough to investigate, and I’m glad I did!! There are certain little annoyances that almost any app has and the same was true of GN/NB, both of which I went back and forth but never truly loved (actually Zinnia was in that loop for me). To be fair, I didn’t really hate either of those updates I didn’t really get the panic, y’all act like the sky is falling because a toolbar was improved, but still, it made me curious when I saw many really positive reactions to Noteful. I ran across Noteful by accident during recent pandemonium around GoodNotes/Notability updates that people hated. If you have support questions or product suggestions, please contact us by support.
